Maoists observe Black Day on I-day in Orissa

Bhubneswar(Orissa): The outlawed CPI (Maoists) on Friday observed Black Day contrary to the countrywide celebration of 61st Independence Day.

The cadres of the leftwing guerrilla outfit have pasted banners and distributed leaflets in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and few other Maoists infected areas urging people to boycott Independence Day function.

"We have no reports of any untoward incidents from Maoists stronghold areas," a top intelligence official said.

The official however admitted that the outlawed outfit boycotted the celebration and observed Black Day.

According to reports, the rebels have unfurled Red Flags in several undisclosed locations of South-Western Police range.

Meanwhile at least six Schools under Kalimela and Kurmanoor blocks of Malkangiri could not able to observe Independence Day because of the Maoists threat. "Though, situation remain tense throughout the day but no reports of untoward incident so far reached district headquarters," Malkangiri SP Satish K Gajbhiye told over phone.

Gajbhiye's Koraput counterpart, Deepak Kumar admitted that the Maoists hoisted black flag at Borigi High School under Narayanpatna block but the security personnel removed it immediately
