HYDERABAD: Director-general of police (DGP) S S P Yadav, who had promised to be available to all 24X7 and 365 days a year when he took charge, reportedly refused to meet the aged parents of Maoist top gun Sambasivudu here. Ironically, the very state police chief used 'Sunday is a holiday' pretext to turn the senior citizens away from his doorstep at his official residence at Kundanbagh.
A few days after proclaiming himself 'the common man's DGP', Yadav had even put out his mobile number for the general public to call him at any time. However, the DGP declined to meet the worried parents of Sambasivudu.
This happened on a day when concern was being raised over the top Maoist landing in the police custody and civil rights groups and his parents expressing concern over his safety.
Sambasivudu's parents have been alleging that their son is in police custody and want their son to be produced in court. Police top brass and home minister K Jana Reddy have dismissed the charge and denied that the top Maoist is in their custody.
In a surprise development, a little known group 'Green Tigers' called up a few media organisations and said Sambasivudu was in their custody. The Green Tigers allegedly claimed that Sambasivudu's fate would be decided in people's court and the media would be briefed about it on Sunday morning. However, no announcement came till the time of filling this report.
After the 'Green Tigers' came into picture, Sambasivudu's parents tried to meet the DGP on Sunday, but he declined to meet, they alleged.
They later met Jana Reddy who reiterated that Sambasivudu was not in the police

Maoists gun down three in Andhra
Maoist guerrillas in Andhra Pradesh gunned down three people early on Saturday accusing them of being police spies.
The attack took place in Borlagunda village in Karimnagar district, about 250 km from here.
According to the police, a group of 15 guerrillas from the Communist Party of India-Maoist entered the village around 2 am, picked up the three from their homes and gunned them down after branding them "police informers".
The three had been associated with the Maoist outfit in the past.
Karimnagar in Telangana region was once a stronghold of the Maoists. But the outfit has suffered several setbacks there in recent years.
Maoist violence in the state has claimed more than 6,000 lives in the last four decades. The police have achieved many successes in anti-Maoist operations in the last two years.
Maoist violence registered a 42 per cent decline in 2007 compared to 2006.

Top Maoist Sambasivudu arrested ?

sadfSources said Sambasivudu and Ravi were training locals along with Guthi Koya tribals brought from the Dantewada region of Chhattisgarh when they were surrounded by Greyhounds personnel and arrested. About 40 tribals escaped into the forests.
The Vizag superintendent of police, Akun Sabharwal, refused to confirm any arrest of Maoists during last couple of days. Earlier in Hyderabad, the State Human Rights Commission asked for a report on the reported arrest of Sambasivudu.
The commission told the director-general of police, S.S.P. Yadav, to submit the report by 9 am on January 26. Lakshmamma, the mother of Sambasivudu, had approached the commission chairperson, Justice B. Subhashan Reddy, on Friday stating that her son had been arrested on January 20 and that his life was under threat.

No safe zone in Andhra, Maoists warn leaders
HYDERABAD, OCTOBER 3: The CPI(Maoist) has in the latest edition of its mouthpiece People’s March explained the reasons for the attack on former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Janardhan Reddy in Nellore district on September 8. Claiming that it can still “deliver effective blows on the ruling class by adopting guerrilla warfare and executing plans with courage and determination”, the outlawed Left wing party said Janardhan Reddy was “notorious for unleashing large-scale terror on the revolutionary masses” and held him responsible for the death of 400 revolutionaries. “He continues to be an important leader and is behind every fascist measure taken by the YSR Government,” it observed.
The party admitted that the bid on the former Chief Minister’s life was not an easy job. “It had to be executed on a plain terrain with hardly any cover to hide. It had to be executed according to the programme of the target and not at midnight, which is the most convenient time for the guerrillas to retreat safely,” the extremists explained. The militant outfit lauded the “courage and determination” of its cadre who chose such a time and terrain to launch the attack, which it claimed “unnerved the police and the politicians most”.
Sounding a warning to the police and politicians, it said “there is no safe zone” for the “reactionary forces”. “Maoists can strike anywhere anytime. The Vakadu incident has shattered the myth that the Maoist movement is finished in Andhra,” it claimed.

Raja Shekhara Reddy welcomes big retailers in Andhra Pradesh
New Delhi, Sept. 28 (PTI): At a time when big retailers are facing hostile environment in many states, Andhra Pradesh is prepared to roll out the red carpet to them.
"Big retail outlets are welcome in the state of Andhra Pradesh. We have got no doubt about it. Our experience in the past one year is that they are able to give better price to farmers and they are able to give consumers better products at an affordable cost," Chief Minister Y S R Reddy told PTI.
Organised retail chains would only hurt the mediators and brokers in the farm trade business, he said, adding "they are trying to increase their turnover and reduce their margin. They are giving better rates to farmers and a better deal to consumers. I think we should encourage it".
Asked whether big retailers would not hit millions of small shopkeepers in the state, Reddy said they "will always have their way of earning. But that does not mean if a particular thing is not remunerative, one continues the same trade and same avocation. I do not think it is right".
Ultimately, he said, efficiency and productivity have to improve in an era of globalisation and liberalisation. "Even the farmers will not be happy if the productivity does not go up," he said.
Reddy's remarks assume significance in the context of organised retailers like Reliance Retail facing protests in states like Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Kerala and Jharkhand.
