Purulia, May 08: Security measures were tightened in view of the call of Purulia bandh by Maoists on Thursday.

Posters came up in some parts of the district calling upon people to observe a 24-hour shut down in the area, police sources confirmed.

The posters called for economic development of tribals, stop acquisition of farmers' land for big industries and end of alleged atrocities by the ruling CPI(M).

All the police stations in certain Naxal pockets have been alerted and patrolling beefed up in the area after discovery of the posters, the sources said.

Meanwhile, a CPI(M)-sponsored 12 hour Balarampur bandh, following the killing of local committee member Dubraj Hembram paralysed life in the area, reports said.

Two persons were detained in connection with the killing of Hembram who was shot at by motor cycle-borne youths yesterday at Balarampur, the sources said.
