Jamshedpur (PTI): Two persons were on Saturday killed when naxals fired indiscriminately on moving trucks at Karamdih in Saraikela-Kharswan district as the banned CPI (Maoist) enforced a 24-hour bandh in Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal in protest against price rise.
According to Superintendent of Police Laxman Prasad Singh, a group of fifteen maoists fired at the trucks plying on the busy Tata-Ranchi highway at Karamdih under Chandil police station, killing two persons in two separate trucks.
One of them was identified as Mohd Mubarak of Rajasthan's Bharatpur area, he added.
Another truck fell into a roadside ditch after its driver, in an attempt to escape the gunfire, lost control over the vehicle. The Maoists set the truck on fire, the police officer said.
This is the second bandh called within a week by the maoists.
Posters calling for the bandh were pasted today in Maoist strongholds. On April 16, the proscribed outfit enforced bandh in five states, including Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, the police have beefed up security at vital spots with patrolling stepped up along the railway tracks, police said.
