Nigeria: Gunmen Kill Five Police Officers in Rivers

Unidentifed gunmen at the early hours of yesterday attacked the Bonny Island police barracks in Rivers State killing five police officers who were performing their official duties.

The hoodlums who were heavily armed with sophisticated weapons were said to have boarded a speed boat from an unknown place to Bonny Island where they struck.
During the operation which lasted for some hours, LEADERSHIP gathered that those who died as a result of the gunshot received from the die-hard criminals include an assistant superintendent of police[ASP],two sergeants,a constable and an inspector of police.

The victims whose names could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report were however identified as officers attached to the barracks.

LEADERSHIP also gathered that during the operation,several inmates escaped from detention,just as the crimuinals escaped with five AK 47 riffles and nine short guns.
