Hyderabad, March 14: Describing the next general elections as ‘‘final frontier,’’ Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhara Rao said that he would resolve the Naxal issue within six months of creation of separate State.
Participating in a felicitation programme organised by the Telangana Students Asssociation of University of Hyderabad here today, he spoke at length about the strategy that is being adopted by the TRS to achieve the goal.
‘‘We are confident that within a few months after the next general elections, the separate State dream would become a realty. In any circumstances it is delayed, the State will witness serious agitation which would be several times more aggressive than that of 1969,’’ the TRS chief said amidst a huge round of applause from the students, who occupied every inch of the meeting venue.
‘‘We are moving ahead in a systematic and strategic manner. Our ultimate aim is to achieve maximum votes and bring pressure on the Central Government,’’ he said.
The TRS chief also called upon the students to go to villages soon after the examinations and campaign for the TRS candidates in the byelections. ‘‘Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy has already mobilised his ministers. It is the students, who should create awareness among the masses,’’ Rao said.
He exuded confidence that the students will live up to the expectations and chip in with their contribution for achieving separate State.
Civil libertian Prof Haragopal said that Telangana state is a historic necessity. ‘‘I am confident that in the separate state, the TRS will protect the democratic rights of the people,’’ he said.
About 10 former MLAs and MPs of the TRS attended the meeting.
