Naxalite factions protest against spiralling prices
SILIGURI, March 26: Four Naxalite factions, CPI-ML (Liberation), CPI-ML (New Democracy), CPI-ML (Janashakti) and CPI-ML (Provisional Central Committee) would collectively organise a law violation programme in Siliguri on 28 March. The movement would be organised to protest against the continuing price hike of essential commodities, especially food items.
Announcing it, CPI-ML (Liberation) leader Mr Abhijit Majumder today said: “We intend to court arrest to make a point.”
Spelling out the objective of the proposed law violation programme Mr Sridhar Mukherjee, of the CPI-ML (New Democracy) said that while access to food for the common people is decreasing, the state government is passing the buck to the Centre and doing nothing to check the spiraling prices of essential commodities.
“We are not prepared to buy the state government's logic, which is equally responsible for the impending food crisis in West Bengal. Our view is that the food crisis is being created by some corrupt traders in connivance with both the Centre and the state. Otherwise, how can you explain the fact that when a food crisis has hit the state an enormous quantity of food items like rice, wheat, onions, and potatoes is being transported into some neighbouring countries,” was his question.
The Naxalite leaders further stated that their stir would not end with a day's law violation programme.
“All the Naxalite factions are coming together and our agitation programmes would continue till we compel the governments to redress the hardships of the common people,” Mr Abhijit Majumder affirmed.
