maoist nabbed at paradise hotel

SECUNDERABAD: A CPI (ML) Janashakti (Rajanna Group) zonal secretary was arrested by the Task Force personnel in Secunderabad on Monday. Two country-made fire arms and 10 cartridges were also seized from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended Bashapaka Somaiah alias Bodigi Ilayiah alias Ravi alias Subhash, 30, at Paradise hotel in Secunderabad. Somaiah is the Jangaon/Kadavendi zonal committee secretary and also commander of the Bodigi Ilayaiah dalam. The Maoist, who is a native of Choduru village in Warangal district, has reportedly several extortion, criminal intimidation and attempt to murder cases registered against him at various police stations in Warangal, Nalgonda and Hyderabad city.

According to an official release, Somaiah had threatened a business person in Secunderabad to settle a land dispute and threatened to kill him and his family members.

Based on a complaint, a case was registered against Somaiah at the Ramgopalpet police station. He reportedly escaped from an encounter with police at Ramaram village in Warangal district on January 1. A dalam member, Jaggu Srinu, died in the encounter.

He along with the seized arms and ammunition were handed over to the Ramgopalpet police station for further investigation, the release added.
