JAJPUR: One Jogendra Jamuda of Ambagadia village under Kalinga Nagar police station was shot at while he was returning home from Duburi weekly market after shopping along with his aunt and mother on a two-wheeler on Thursday.
Jamuda is a die-hard supporter of Visthapan Virodhi Jana Manch (VVJM) spearheading tribal movement against industrialisation since January 2, 2006, police firing in which 14 tribals were killed. Police said three motorcycle-borne miscreants fired at Jamuda on the road just few yards away from the police station and also beat him up while he fell down from the bike he was riding.
Listening his screams, one Kanhu Badra of Ambagadia came to his rescue but by then the miscreants had fled the place. The miscreants also assaulted the pillion riders (women) who fell down on the NH. Jamuda was rushed to the nearby Danagadi hospital.
He is stated to be out of danger, said Kalinga Nagar IIC K C Mund. When the news spread in the locality, hundreds of tribal supporters of VVJM with their traditional weapon blocked the road at Ambagadia demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
The VVJM alleged that on last Thursday also Nati Angarai, another VVJM supporter was also attacked by some motorcycle-borne miscreants
