Man beaten up on suspicion of being Maoist

JAJPUR, Feb. 20: Local public nabbed an injured youth at Haridaspur railway station under Dharmasala police station limits in Jajpur district yesterday , suspecting him to be a Maoist. They allegedly assaulted the injured youth and later handed him over to the police. The suspected has been identified as Arun Kumar Goswami (26) of Dalgachha area of Howrah town in West Bengal.
According to police sources, Arun has been working as a supervisor in mining engineering company, entrusted with cable laying work of Reliance company and supervising the cable digging works of the company across the state. He was returning to Haridaspur by bus from Cuttack after withdrawing money from the company office at Cuttack. He was attacked and looted by a team of pick-pickets and was nabbed by the public while he was staggering back injured.
Jajpur Superintendent of Police, Mr DS Kuttey said, “ Public nabbed the victim suspecting him to be a Maoist as he was severely injured and coming on foot near the railway track at Haridaspur, but the fact is, he is neither a Maoist nor has any link with the extremist wing.” n SNS
