SAMBALPUR, Jan. 17: Sambalpur police have arrested five persons from the Jamankira police station area on charges of being involved with the Maoists.
They were arrested late last night and forwarded to court today. Police sources said that the arrested persons have helped the Maoists for a long time and have actively participated in their movements and unlawful activities carried out at various parts of the district and particularly in the forest, police said.
The accused have been identified as Buti Mirdha of Basupali, Tarani Mirdha and Pholok Soren of Garpati, Ramesh Bagh of Pathargarh and Prasant Rout of Kusupur.
All are youths and functioned as local aides to Maoist cadres, the SP of Sambalpur, Mr Sanjay Kumar said. “These youths were actively involved in a recent attack which was carried out on the forest range office at Badarama, about 40 km from the district headquarters,” Mr Kumar added.
At the same time, police also seized a vehicle bearing the number plate OR 15L 2505 from their possession. “This particular vehicle was used by the Maoists regularly,” Mr Kumar said.
