Mangalore: Naxals help grow fundamental organisations in Karnataka

Mangalore Jan 7: "Naxals are helping to grow Muslim fundamental organisations like KFD in the State. This trend is dangerous to the very basis of democracy," said CPI(M) State Committee Secretary G N Nagaraj.

Speaking at the district-level CPI(M) convention held at Kolya on Sunday, he said it is wrong to say that Naxals are opposing communalism. Instead, they have given rise to Muslim fundamentalism and also Sangha Parivar. He called upon the party workers to fight against the fundamentalists, communalists and Naxalism.

'Mask'

Mr Nagaraj said BJP is using 'mathadishas' as a mask to cover their communal feelings.

He said BJP spoiled Mathadishas by dragging them into politics. People had respect towards them. However, now the time has come when people have lost respect towards them, he added.

"BJP is trying to come to power with land mafia, mines mafia, money power and with the help of goondas. It is trying to spread communalism in the State. They are nurturing the goodas for this purpose."

Stating that land and mines mafia lead to dissolution and fall of the government in the State, he said the Congress, BJP and JD(S) MLAs were fighting for the key posts in the government, which finally led to the fall of the government. Within a span of three years, the State had to get the taste of President's rule, he added.

"The Janajagrithi samavesha and Janandolana of BJP, Congress and JD(S) are nothing but attacking each other. There is no real concern towards the people's problem," Mr Nagaraj added.

Former MLA Srirama Reddy said that Left parties supported UPA government to keep BJP away. However, UPA government is following the same economic policy of the NDA. Though in the 10th five year plan, UPA government had targeted to increase the agriculture growth to 4.1 per cent, the actual growth was only 1.1 per cent till March.

Quoting Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, he said that between 1994-2007, as many as 1.50 lakh farmers have committed suicide in the country. Every agriculture family has a loan of Rs 12,550. Nearly 28 per cent of our country's total income is paid as interest to the loan borrowed from other world institutions.

Nuclear deal

Coming down heavily on the Indo-US nuclear deal, he said the deal will take away India's independent foreign policy. CPM will never allow India to sign its nuclear deal with US. CPM is ready to sacrifice everything to preserve the sovereignty of the country.

Leaders Abraham Karkada, B Madhava, K R Sriyan among others were present.
