COIMBATORE: The recent arrests of Maoist and LTTE sympathisers in the State seem to have had the police pulling up their socks and launching preventive measures.
Apart from arrest of a Maoist from these parts recently, the police are still investigating the call received by Tirupur Mayor allegedly from the LTTE.
Informed sources said LTTE had lost six ships in the last one year and police were not ruling out their sourcing spare parts from Tamil Nadu.
The possibility of Chennai being used as a transit point for shipping spareparts and medicines procured from other states is also not ruled out.
If there are any activities taking place, in which the LTTE is directly or indirectly involved, it is done near Ramanathapuram and areas like Thanjavur.
Even in drug smuggling, LTTE is reported to have an indirect hand.
Coimbatore and Tirupur are also stated to be sourcing centres- Tirupur for clothes and Coimbatore for foundry items.
The Q branch sleuths and the local police are taking a list of the foundries here.
“This is only a deterrent step and not based on any specific intelligence. But we have a report that some foundries are flooded with orders and are working day and night,” a senior official said.
