Ecuador Denies Letting FARC Leader Reyes Operate on Its Soil

Jan. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Ecuador's government, rebutting a charge by Colombia's defense minister, denied that a leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia guerrillas is operating on its soil.

In a protest note sent to the Colombian embassy today, the Foreign Ministry dismissed comments by Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos, who had said that Ecuador knew FARC leader Raul Reyes traveled to Ecuador.

``The presence on its territory of persons who organize or carry out acts of violence that would affect a third country would be unacceptable,'' the ministry said, reiterating its policy of neutrality in the Colombian conflict in a press release posted on its Web site
