FARC HOSTAGE RELEASE DEBATES

Bogotá, Sep. 26th. ABN.- The mediation of the Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez Frías, towards a hostage exchange and the end of the Colombian conflict is a milestone because for the first time in this kind of negotiations is taken into account the guerilla thinking, indicated the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in a press release by the agency ANNCOL this Wednesday.

“There had not been seen a situation of joint to a solution initiative to the Colombian conflict that takes into account the people’s reasons and, among them, the point of view of the revealed against the iniquity of the regime,” stated the FARC.

In the statement, the group thanked the active steps of Chávez for the humanitarian exchange of 45 hostages in their hands by 500 detained rebels, and the support to those efforts by different countries.

“We welcome with approval, gratitude and hope the generous intentions of all the people and personalities who have made efforts to build bridges of reconciliation for Colombians, but we especially thank with optimism the inestimable steps taken by the partner president, great Colombian compatriot, Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías,” added the release.

Likewise, the FARC reiterated the critics to the Colombian Head of State, Álvaro Uribe, by his negative to demilitarize two municipalities to negotiate the exchange and the intention to rescue to “blood and fire” the captives, among them the French-Colombian politic Ingrid Betancourt and three North American.

“Colombian fate can not be war. We should insist upon the materialization of the humanitarian exchange as an essential step towards the course that leads to a political solution of the conflict that lives the country,” informed the text.

The Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez, has planned to receive next October 8th in Caracas the representatives of the FARC to dialogue on the exchange.

According Chávez’s statements, such encounter would be the preliminary of a meeting with the FARC’s leader, Manuel Marulanda (Tirofijo), to talk about that issue and the end of the war of guerillas which has last four decades.

Likewise, the Venezuelan Head of State affirmed this Tuesday that he will not abandon the mediation for the humanitarian agreement to achieve the hostages’ freedom
